YouTube videos creating issues on OS X Yosemite

If you are running Apple’s latest OS X Yosemite, you might be experiencing issues while watching YouTube videos. Some users are even complaining of the Safari crash-down when they try to play certain videos on YouTube. The problem is being indicated in Apple Support Communities and Google Product forums.

Neither Apple nor Google has made an official word regarding this problem yet. Technically, the issue is with some HTML5 videos. The videos don’t manifest itself when using resource-hog Flash player, instead making Safari to switch back to Flash for delivery. No other browsers seems to have been affected. So, it looks like a problem to YouTube side. Hopefully, YouTube will soon fix the problem.

As told earlier, there is no official workaround to fix the issue. However, some users are suggesting some temporary fixes that can prove useful. Here are few of those:

Change Safari’s user agent:

Here, you will switch the user agent of your Safari browser to Chrome. Try it out and if this fix works for you.

  1. To do so, head to Safari’s Preferences.
  2. Head to ‘Advanced’ tab.
  3. Now, tick the checkbox next to ‘Show Develop menu in menu bar’.
  4. Choose ‘Google Chrome – Mac’ your user agent.

Deleting all Site Data:

Alternatively, you can try to delete all your site and flash player data. Check if this works.

  1. Head to System Preferences.
  2. Now click on Flash Player Settings.
  3. Click on Advanced option.
  4. Now, delete all site data and flash player settings.

If you are still unable to solve YouTube video issues on Safari, it’s better to wait for the official workaround. Know any other solution? Do tell us in your comments below.
