After facebook messenger and Viber released their dark mode updates, it seems that WhatsApp dark mode is also in the works as suggested by the latest beta.

Who doesn’t love the ability to stare at a dark interface when they are in a dark room? Well, messenger for Android released their dark mode update just last month which was followed by viber’s dark mode update. Developers are finally waking up to the idea of utilizing dark interfaces on OLED displays. It saves battery and is good for eyesight.

However, one of the most popular IM apps, Whatsapp, hadn’t said much in the regard until now, it appears that the latest beta update to the app contains traces of this option.

The dark mode code was found by wabetainfo.com in the WhatsApp beta 2.19.82 APK. The dark mode feature is currently in experimental phase and is not available to everyone even if you install the latest beta.

Following are some screenshots courtesy of wabetainfo.

The screenshots show that the dark mode interface utilizes a grey tone instead of full black. The screenshots do not show the actual chat screen. The dark mode for WhatsApp has been rumored for a long time and we are glad that we finally have some definitive proof of development.

Whatsapp has not commented on when this feature can be expected to roll out, however, we will keep you updated once any such news comes to light.

This is all, do let me know in the comments how you feel about the dark mode feature in Whatsapp.
