Sony’s Xperia XZ2 will be its First Wireless Charging Smartphone

Xperia XZ2

As we all know, a lot of smartphone manufacturers have shifted their focus to making nearly bezel-less, wireless charging smartphones. Sony has remained strongly attached to the top and bottom bezels in its smartphone lineup. But, this is about to change very soon with the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact. Sony’s Mobile World Congress plans appear to have leaked out!

Expected Features of Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact:

Xperia XZ2

According to Evan Blass at VentureBeat, Sony is going to be announcing the 5.7 inch Xperia XZ2 and the 5 inch XZ2 Compact. The two smartphones are said to have almost the same basic features, along with some differences. Both, Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are said to be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor and Android 8.0 Oreo. Sony’s new smartphones will compete with Samsung’s Galaxy S9 as is it expected to have a Snapdragon 845 processor too.

The Xperia XZ2 will be Sony’s first smartphone that supports wireless charging. This will be possible due to the sports 3D glass on both faces of the smartphone. The XZ2’s glossy finish will be available in four color variants- black, silver, blue and light purple. While, the XZ2 Compact will also be available in four variants- silver, black, green and pink. The XZ2 Compact will have a polycarbonate case back. Hence, it will lack the wireless charging feature found in the larger XZ2.

Both the smartphones will feature full HD LCD’s protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5. Just like the one found on the XZ Premium, the back cameras will be 19-megapixel, f/1.8. These cameras will be capable of 4K HR recording and super-slow-mo capture in HD resolution.

Furthermore, another interesting feature in the XZ2 is apparently one that adds haptic feedback to audio. This would allow the smartphone to sync vibrations to sound. Also, XZ2 is said to feature a 3180 mAh battery (even larger than the one rumored on Samsung’s S9). However, the XZ2 Compact will have a 2870 mAh battery.

Further details about both smartphones will come when Sony officially announces them at MWC very soon! Stay tuned for updates!
