Windows Phone finally receives Instagram app, still missing numerous features

The much awaited app for Windows Phone is now out. Instagram app has now made its way to Windows Phone 8 users. This is the first official app of Instagram for Windows Phone. Previously, users were using unofficial Instagram apps to enjoy photo-sharing service. The official Instagram app has already been part of Android for years however it now reaches Windows Phone too. It seems Microsoft kept pressurizing Instagram to release the app for their mobile platform i.e. Windows Phone.

About a month ago, Nokia revealed the arrival of Instagram app along with some other apps at Nokia Event. The new official Instagram app for Windows Phone seems to have both positive and negative aspects.

Coming to the features of the new app, the app comes with all photo editing tools including filters. There is a slight alteration in the user interface of Instagram for Windows Phone as they have shifted ‘Refresh’ button to top while bringing tabs i.e. Home, Discover and Notifications to the top. The app is relatively fast, flat and smooth

Now head towards some missing features, Instagram app for Windows Phone lack video recording support. So you can’t enjoy Instagram latest 15 second video recording feature. You can’t even take your photos directly from the app. Yet there is a link, but it links you to Camera app. After taking snap via Camera app, you need to upload it to Instagram app to add filters.

Overall, we can say the new app a ‘complete’ app. It seems that the developers have given it some hard work. We can expect the missing features to reach in next versions as said by Instagram spokesman:

‘We’re not finished, and our team will continue developing the Windows Phone app to keep releasing features and bringing you the best Instagram possible.’

The app is absolutely free. Download it here.
