At some point in your life you probably wanted to be a pirate. You might have wanted to plunder ships. Look for buried treasures by following old tattered maps with a big ‘X’ that marked the spot, sail the seas and take part in epic naval battles.
But alas the age of pirates is over, so Rare offers the best alternative, Sea Of Thieves. Published by Microsoft Studios Sea of Thieves is a first-person action adventure cooperative multiplayer game where you and your friends play as pirates(duh).
The Game
You the player will take on quests with your friends and travel through what the developers call the shared world. Which means you will constantly encounter other players during your voyages. Co-op is an essential part of gameplay as sailing a ship isn’t a one man job. During battles players will have to maneuver the ship, as well as repair it and man the cannons (one each) to be victorious.
Platform and Development
Sea of Thieves will be available on Xbox One and PC. The game will be part of Microsoft’s “Xbox Play Anywhere” cross buy program so you can obviously the game features cross platform play.
The game is being developed in Epic Games Unreal Engine 4. UE4 is responsible for games like the Batman Arkham series, Bulletstorm, Dishonored and a lot more amazing games.
Sea of Thieves was announced back in E3 2015 and a gameplay reveal was done at E3 2016. The game was supposed to be launched in 2017 for Xbox One and PC but was delayed to 2018. I personally think it is a good thing. Since I’d rather have a good and polished game later than a broken one earlier.
Insider Program
You can try your luck with the Sea of Thieves Insider Program here if you want to get your hands on it. According to the Insider Program selected people will get a chance to play the development version of the game for testing.
