PSN Profile name change

There were rumors about a massive PSN firmware update, a possibly new console and one of the most asked features from the PS community, the PSN name change. Rumors suggested that it will come along soon and here it is ladies, gentlemen, and kids. Sony officially announced PSN name change which will roll out in early 2019!

PSN Name Change and PlayStation Preview Program

The PSN name change is here. The rumors suggesting the name change were right. Sony plans to roll out the update for the PlayStation users in early 2019 along with Playstation Preview Program.

This wasn’t posted on some third party website but on the official Sony website. The website says that the developers at Sony will begin testing this feature soon. There is a beta will be available for the PSN users who pre-registered as testers for previous PlayStation 4 system software betas.

PSN Name Change Pricing

Like Xbox Live, you will be able to change your Online ID as many times as you like but only the first time is free. For the next time, you will have to pay, €9.99/£7.99/USD9.99. For PlayStation Plus members, it will cost €4.99/£3.99/USD4.99 after the first change.

How to change?

Changes to your PSN profile name could be done from the Settings menu or the Profile page of your PS4.

Compatible games with the name change

Here’s what Sony says about the compatibles games which support the name change feature,

This feature is compatible with PS4 games originally published after 1st April 2018, and a large majority of the most played PS4 games that were released before this date. However, please note not all games and applications for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita systems are guaranteed to support the online ID change, and users may occasionally encounter issues or errors in certain games.

If for any reason you experience issues after changing your ID, you can revert back to your original ID for free at any time (you will only be able to revert once during the preview program). Reverting back to an old ID will resolve most issues caused by the ID change. In addition, when this feature officially launches, a list of compatible games published before April 1, 2018, will be provided on PlayStation.com for reference before you make a change.

Preview Program Start and Concluding Date

For this feature, the preview program will start very soon as no specific release date was mentioned and will conclude at the end of November 2018. The program will fully roll out on for PSN users in early 2019.
