Now hang on, this could mean anything, right? But here’s where it get’s interesting, firstly, it’s listed right next to PS4 in the second code image, and what’s even noteworthy is In Greek mythology, Erebus /ˈɛrɪbəs, -əb-/, also Erebos (Greek: Ἔρεβος, “deep darkness, shadow”), was often conceived as a primordial deity, representing the personification of darkness; for instance, Hesiod’s Theogony identifies him as one of the first five beings in existence, born of Chaos.

Five being the keyword here.

Here are what the previous PlayStation consoles were called

  • Orbis (PS4)
  • Morpheus (PS VR)
  • Neo (PS4 Pro)

So PS5 = Erebus?

This could just be what the codename is referring to, but take this with a grain of salt, because this is all based on speculation and could just be something entirely else. There is no doubt that Sony is already hard at work on the next console, given how games like Cyberpunk 2077 could very well by cross generation, we’ll have to wait and see.
