Guide to Install Official Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA Update on Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 [How To]

Samsung devices have started receiving Android 4.4.2 KitKat update. Last week, the International Edition of Galaxy S4 smartphone i.e. Galaxy S4 I9500 received the OTA update. So how to get the update and install it on Galaxy S4 device without damaging the device?

Well, here is the guide to enable the users to perform the installation and update their Galaxy S4 I9500 to the official Android 4.4.2 KitKat update.

Installing official Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA Update on Galaxy S4 I9500:

Before you continue, make sure to perform following steps on your device:

  • Install Samsung USB Drivers on your PC from here
  • Disable any Antivirus and Samsung KIES software running on your device as they may hinder the use of ODIN tool
  • Enable Debugging Mode from the Settings
  • Backup your device
  • Remove the external SD card

Also REMEMBER that if you are using custom ROM, it will wipe your system partition completely.

Procedure for Installing Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA Update:

So considering the above mentioned things, it’s time to begin installation of the update. Follow the below mentioned procedure to continue:

  1. Download the Android 4.4.2 firmware from here and extract its contents to a folder on your PC desktop
  2. Download ODIN3 v3.09 from here (Source 1 | Source 2) and extract its contents to a folder on your PC desktop
  3. Now, switch off your phone
  4. Boot your Galaxy S4 I9500 in Download Mode
  5. Run the ODIN3 executable file on your PC
  6. Connect your PC with Galaxy S4 device via USB Cable, WAIT till the tool recognizes your device to go to next step
  7. Click on the AP button in the tool and add the ROM file ‘.tar.md5’, the one downloaded in Step 1
  8. Without making any changes, click on the START button to begin installation
  9. Once the installation is complete, your device will automatically REBOOT.

Note: As the installation completes, the ODIN tool on your PC will indicate the completion.

You have now successfully updated your Galaxy S4 device. Disconnect the USB Cable and start enjoying the latest Android version on your Galaxy S4 device
