Thinnest Possible LED ‘Only Three Atom thick’ by Researchers

In 1961 the first ever LED was introduced. The light technology took a step ahead and in 1907 LED’s were in market but only used for special purpose. Now a days everyone has heard of LED TV that are revolutionary in itself. With the help of these LED’s the world’s most thinnest and light TV had been introduced. But what is now to be more explained about LED in this post.

Researchers at University of Washington have built the world’s most Thinnest Possible LED, these LED’s measure about a size of three atoms. Just assume it to the slice size of paper or smaller than it. These LED’s are thin, foldable and bright and are the future of technology. Xiaodong Xu the co-author of a paper and a researcher who reviewed these LED’s was amazed to see them. He mentioned these are 10 to 20 times much thinner than the old LED’s used in electronics.

Talking our discussion forward on this these LED’s researcher say that these LED are so thin that they can possibly replace electrons in certain computing chips. It can result in more efficiency and can look cooler. More over as these LED are foldable and thin they can be part of any electronic device that emits light whether a wearable or a stationary thing. Whereas Xu says ”This work makes it possible to make highly integrated and energy efficient devices in areas such as lightning, optical communication and Nano lasers”.

Xu in his statement to media mentioned that what his lab has produced can no further can be minimized in order to challenge them. Whereas he also didn’t disclosed how he and his team came across to produce such a thin device. When an individual looks at a design of on how to build a light, this requires many material like tungsten and other stuff. And then many methods are applied on then in order to make them glow. Stating more Xu mentioned that they will be researching more on this experiment to develop a more efficient way of building this then LED for future. Co-author Jason Ross added up in the end and said that as this is a semiconductor in the end so it could be used in almost every technology and especially when it comes to “Three Dimensional Silicon Technology”.
