The original Splatoon and its sequel are some of the best games you can play on the WiiU and Nintendo Switch. With some excellent multiplayer and gameplay, it’s something all Switch owners should give a go. However, it seems that Splatoon 3 isn’t under development.

Splatoon 2 came out in 2017, and since then, there has been no indication that a sequel is in development, and now it’s pretty much confirmed that it isn’t for now.

Splatoon 3 is not under development

Hisashi Nogami, that served as a producer for both Splatoon and Splatoon 2 spoke recently with Famitsu and confirmed that they’re focusing on the Octo expansion for now, and will continue to update the game, and a future title isn’t their top priority right now.

This doesn’t mean that they don’t have any intention of releasing a new game, as Nogami said that the team would “like to return the favor” to everyone that has supported the game.

We’re excited to see what the development team has in store for us in the future. It’s clear that there’s a big audience for Splatoon, and it has been a success on the Nintendo Switch, and a sequel wouldn’t hurt at all.

We wouldn’t completely rule Splatoon 3 out for Nintendo Switch, as there are still some years till Nintendo decides to announce a new console. Either way, it’s nice to hear the development team still working on updating a game that came out back in 2017.

The Octo expansion came out last year and is still being updated so players can enjoy the ultimate Splatoon experience.

If Splatoon 3 does start development sometime soon, we will probably see it revealed on E3 next year with a trailer and details.
