Selena Gomez gets a kidney transplant due to Lupus.

The 25 year old singer, Selena Gomez, has been battling a disease called Lupus. And now, in the summer, she finally decides to get a kidney transplant. This news was reveled on Thursday, on her Instagram post. The morning post showed a picture of Selena in a hospital bed, alongside her donor.

The donor is the actress Francia Raisa.

“I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of,” Gomez wrote. “So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you.”

The young singer offered her thanks to the incredible team of doctors.

“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” Gomez wrote in particular about her donor. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much, sis.”

Two years ago, Selena went public with her Lupus diagnosis.

Those of you, who aren’t’ aware what Lupus is, well, it is a chronic autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body (skin, joints, and/or organs). Lupus affects the body’s immune system. The symptoms of the disease include extreme tiredness, rashes (especially on the face, wrists and hands), joint pain and swelling.

Selena Gomez offered her fans offered a chance to research this condition at the Lupus Research Alliance website, while saying, “Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made.” In her post, she says not enough is known about the condition.
