Google will soon let you backup your whole computer

Google Drive is all set to be the answer to all your digital storage needs. Google aims to expand their storage services from being limited to files you create and upload to their Cloud such as Google Docs and Photos, to backing up all the data on your computer. Soon, Google will be able to monitor and backup files located in any folder on your computer that you click on. This would include your PC’s desktop, the complete document folder, or other locations that are more specific.

This system would allow a more seamless and convenient experience to its users by eliminating the need to make new folders, and replacing it with a tool that recreates any folder you select from your computer to the Drive.

Google says that it has created this tool with mainly casual Google Drive users in mind. This tool will be able to satisfy an individual’s storage and backup needs, but it has not been necessarily created for more complex systems and devices that businesses use. So, Google recommends regular consumers to download and use the new app once it’s released, but it suggests that businesses stick to the existing Drive app for the time being.

This new backup feature will be coming out on the 28th of June, in the shape of a new app called ‘Backup and Sync’. This would allow you to select folders on your computer that you want to be backed up on the Drive. However, the storage space provided to you will still most probably limited to 15GB, and in case you go over that limit, you will have to pay for more storage or manage the files you’ve backed up to fix the issue.

Even with the limited 15GB cap on free accounts, this feature will be a pretty handy one. People have been requesting Dropbox to incorporate something like this in their services for a long time, and they are yet to fulfill the people’s demand. A lot of people already use Google Drive to store their pictures and share their documents, so it would be great for them to have their whole computer backed up on the same platform. For anyone looking for extended flexibility in their syncing apps, and wider options, Google looks like it’s going to become the best option
