So after much anticipation and a prolonged wait, the battle royale phenomenon that has taken the console and PC gaming by storm has finally made its way to Mobile. Yes, Fornite Mobile, which was previously only available on iOS will soon be available on Android. A release date is not yet known, however, our friends over at Xdadevelopers have speculated that the game will debut on Android in the launch event that will be held for Samsung Galaxy Note 9 on Aug 9. However, it has also come to attention that Fortnite for Android may not be downloadable from PlayStore, instead, you will be able to download Fortnite Mobile For Android (APK) from Epic Games official website.
A member over at Xdadevelopers recently shared the source code for the Fortnite Mobile page on Epic Games website and the source indicates that players will be prompted to download the Fortnite Mobile For Android (APK) through their mobile web browsers.
When the source code is implemented it displays the steps that are involved in downloading and installing the game on mobile. Thanks to a Redditor by the name /u/thesbros who ran the source and got the following images to be displayed on the webpage.
It can be clearly seen that the first image displayed asks users to download Fortnite through their mobile’s web browser and the second screen then asks users to enable “Install from Unknown Sources” in the settings of their phone which is a step essential to installing downloaded APKs outside of Play store.
This move draws many questions as to what inspired Epic games to choose this direction, one obvious reason seems to be that Epic games is seeking to avoid the 30 percent cut on sales which all the game are subjected to pay on Play store. A game that is available on Play store must pay 30 percent of all in-game purchases to Google. This is a hefty amount when you consider how popular the game is and the primary source of revenue for the game comes from selling cosmetic accessories inside the game.
However, nothing is yet certain and Epic games might change its mind as how to distribute their games to the audience. For now, we shall wait and see what happens in the coming days.
