Enable ART to double app performance on your Android device right now

Google announced Android L at its developers’ conference in San Francisco. The new version will come with redesigned interface, some new features and a new battery saving mode. You can read more about Android L here. The update will be made public later this year. However, you can still get the preview version of Android L. The new version will also come with a new environment runtime i.e. ART. This new ART runtime will double app performance of your Android device!

You will be quite surprised to learn that Google has already introduced ART in 2013. Android KitKat has got the option for ART runtime. However, Google did not make any public announcement regarding it. Maybe, Google was testing its ART runtime at that time! Now, the question is, how to enable ART to double app performance on Android KitKat?

Well, before we begin, make sure that you owe a compatible Android device. ART environment seems to work with latest powerful Android phones like Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G3 and hTC One M8. Nexus devices are also compatible. If your device is not compatible, you will not be able to find the desired option. Here are the steps to double app performance on your Android device right now:

  • Head to Settings menu.
  • Tap on ‘About Phone’.
  • Tap seven times on Build number to enable Developers options.
  • Now, head to Developer options.
  • Tap on ‘Select runtime’ option.
  • Now select ART option.

Your device will reboot to get optimized for the new environment. It may take several minutes but once you are done, you will experience double app performance. Some apps may not work with this runtime. In that case, revert back to the old runtime or ask the developer to update the app.
