DICE is the popular game developer based out of Sweden that has brought us such games as the Battlefield series, Star Wars Battlefront Franchise and Mirror’s Edge. The company was originally founded back in 1992 and it has been a subsidiary of EA since 2006. Today, we have news that dozens of Dice employees have quit following the failed launch of Star Wars Battlefront 2 Launch, among some other reasons.
Dozens Of DICE Employees Have Quit
DICE once enjoyed the status of being Sweden’s largest gaming sector’s employer. However, this was until the start of 2018 when it had about 700 employees in the workforce. Ever since then the numbers have been gradually dropping as sources have it that about 40 employees have quit their jobs at DICE and many more are to follow.
Star Wars Battlefront 2People inside the company have said that some of the employees who have left had been working for DICE for upwards of 10 years. Although currently not all reasons are known which have warranted the actions of the employees in question. However, A Swedish source has stated the failure of Star Wars Battlefront 2 launch as a primary cause for employees quitting. Moreover, another major reason according to the source is the emergence of new gaming companies which have increased the competition for employees.
According to the source,
“Both Epic Games [Fortnite] and Ubisoft have recently opened offices in Stockholm. [Previously established companies] King and Paradox Interactive are also growing in size. These four companies are the primary organizations who are recruiting staff from Dice. […] At least 13 employees have left Dice to work [for Ubisoft’s new studio, started by former Dice-boss Patrick Bach]. […] Another 8 have joined Paradox Interactive […].”
