Asus ZenFone 6 Prototype Video Leaked, Features lateral notch

The notch revolution in the modern smartphone has been a game changer so far. We have seen it all in 2018, from Google Pixel 3 XL’s sizeable notch to OnePlus 6T’s minuscule “water drop” notch. Some like em some don’t but from the looks of things, the notch is here to stay. All the notches we have seen so far have been at least centered in the middle of the screen, however, the leaked Asus Zenfone 6 has a different take on the subject. Cue Asus Zenfone 6’s lateral notch that is going to change the traditional notch we have come to know.

The leaked video surfaced yesterday and it shows what appears to be a prototype version of the upcoming Asus Zenfone 6. The distinct feature that catches your eye instantly is the rather unusual position of the notch. The notch on Asus Zenfone 6 has been placed close to the right corner of the display.

The Prototype seems rough around the edges and is not obviously a polished product. For example. if you look at the under side of the phone you will see the headphone jack and the USB C port are not smooth but that is what is expected of a prototype phone.

As for the notch, it is difficult to say at this point whether this sort of implementation of the notch will be liked by users. From what I can see, the notch itself is a very good size, it is not a fat ugly notch as we have seen on some devices *cough* Pixel 3 XL *cough*, on the contrary the notch on Asus Zenfone 6 seems only a tad bit bigger than the one on OnePlus 6T which is considered the hallmark of notch sizes.

However, the focus of Asus Zenphone 6’s notch is the lateral position where it is a few millimeters from the edge of the screen. I personally don’t see much of a problem with it and as is the case with all notch displays, you get used to them eventually but if you have OCD and want things to be symmetrical then this might not be the phone for you.

Sadly, we have no idea about the specifications of the phone, we do know that there is a dual camera setup on the back but no further details are known. Good news is, a 3.5 mm headphone jack can also been seen in the photos and the video along with USB type C. The fingerprint sensor can also been seen below the flashlight on the back of the phone.
