Sonic Team Wants To Do A Sonic Adventure Remake

It seems that the Sonic Team is eager on doing a Sonic Adventure Remake. The game has been ported to several platforms over the years but it could really use a proper remake that has some love poured into it. Sega has had a hard time selling fans on a good new Sonic game with the last successful entry in the series being Sonic Mania for the PC, Switch, Xbox One and the PS4 and that was a collection of all of Sonic’s best hits.

The possibility of a Sonic Adventures Remake?

In an interview with Retro Gamer, director of Team Sonic, Takashi Iizuka expressed great interest in the prospect of a Sonic Adventure Remake.

“It was the first highspeed 3D action game that also featured a scenario highlighted with six different stories, the A-life Chao, six unique styles of gameplay – it is a unique game offering even 20 years after its release. At the time, it also wasn’t just a solitary software release, it was the title to bring people to the Dreamcast and we were given the budget to make something to showcase the hardware. However, it was the very first 3D game that we worked on and looking at it now I can see the rough edges it has, which really makes me want to remake it again.”

Sonic Adventure originally released for the Sega Dreamcast in 1998, it was later ported to Windows PC’s and the GameCube in 2003 under the name Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut that added a new set of challenges and improved the graphics. There was a re-release of the game to the PS3, Xbox 360 in 2010 and to PC’s once again in 2011, but as the game continued to be re-released several times, the game began to show its age and was not well received with critics due to the poor performance of the game on newer consoles.

The idea of a Sonic Adventures Remake does sound promising and considering remakes are in the latest trend in gaming with many PS1 classics like Crash, Spyro, and Resident Evil 2 being remade, it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility for Sonic Adventure to get a new lease on life.
