If you were into the RPG gaming scene back in the late 90s then you probably remember this nifty little game called Baldur’s gate that originally came out in 1998 on Windows and Mac. It was developed by Bioware and published by Interplay Entertainment. The game saw a subsequent sequel the year after the release of the original, however, no sequel supplemented Baldur’s Gate 2, that is, until now. Today, we have news that Larian Studios has indeed acquired the rights to Baldur’s Gate and is apparently working on Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 in the works?

Credible sources maintain that Larian Studios has acquired Baldur’s Gate license and are working on the third sequel. In the past, we have heard about possible enhanced editions of Baldur Gate’s 1 and 2 but nothing was said about an entirely new game. A member from a popular gaming forum has claimed that a colleague of his, who is a former Larian Studios employee, has said that the founder of larian Studios, Swen, has purchased the rights to Baldur’s Gate. However, the original post does express doubts as to what is the intended purpose to the acquisition of rights for the said game but if we think about it what other purpose could it be other than working on a possible sequel to the games i.e Baldur Gate’s 3.

Moreover, Brian Fargo who is the founder of Interplay Entertainment, the studio behind the original Baldur’s Gate games has hinted in a tweet that he knows who is behind the development of Baldur’s Gate 3. Although he doesn’t reveal any details, it at least tells us that something is going on with the development of the game.

It comes as not much of a surprise that a major developer has shown interest in rejuvenating an immensely popular RPG game. Larian studios have ample experience with RPG as they are the ones who developed the insanely popular game “Divinity: Original Sin II” just last year. Who else is fit to take on this challenge other than Larian Studios themselves?

Sadly, minute details are known about the news right now and we can’t go into further details. We will, however, cover more ground when more info surfaces online.

This is for now and keep an eye out for more details on the topic, leave us a comment below on what you make of all this?
