Rumor: Blizzard Has Lost 1.5 Million Subs Since The Start Of Battle for Azeroth

Blizzard Has Lost 1.5 Million Subs
World Of Warcraft: Battle For Azeroth

World of Warcraft is in insanely popular MMORPG game that originally came out in 2004. The immense success of the game prompted the developer, Blizzard, to release 7 successive expansion packs for the game. The latest expansion pack being Battle for Azeroth. Battle for Azeroth was released back in Aug this year. Today, we have a rumor that Blizzard Has Lost 1.5 Million Subs since Battle for Azeroth was originally released.

Rumor: Blizzard Has Lost 1.5 Million Subs

First off, we must emphasize that this is not an official news. This was rumored when a new API for develope.battle.net was launched. Allegedly the new API was leaking player subscription end dates among other info. It was then reported that at the start of Battle for Azeroth, the sub count was somewhere near 3.2 million. Right now the sub count is 1.7 million which is 1.5 million less than the initial count. It is further alleged that 25% of the current 1.7 million are secondary purchases which is 425,000.

If this rumor is, in fact, true then it raises a lot of questions as to what is going on with Blizzard. Why are they suddenly losing subscriptions? Are gamers finally done with the franchise? While we may not have answers to those questions right now it is, however, an interesting thought.

Blizzard Has Lost 1.5 Million Subs

Blizzard has kept mum about the rumor and has not released any official response. For all we know this is probably just speculation but keep in mind that the original tweet which started the rumor has since been taken down. This again begs the question that if Blizzard has nothing to hide why then was the tweet deleted. There was definitely pressure on OP.
