Nintendo May Announce N64 Classic Edition, Game List and Release Date Also Leaked

The N64 Classic Edition has long been rumored to be a real thing since Nintendo filed a trademark for the namesake a few years ago. The console was released in 1996 and was discontinued in 2002. In its time it was home to some of the most legendary titles in gaming which include Super Mario 64, Golden Eye and the 3D Legend of Zelda games.

According to GamingIntel, who have so far been making good calls. They expect an announcement of the N64 Classic edition today. The blog has since then called 3 Nintendo Directs on the dot.

According to the tipster, The N64 Classic Edition will be announced after today’s Smash Direct or the one set to take place later in November.

N64 Classic Edition Games & Release Date

The Nintendo 64 was the foundation to some games which set the industry standard. As such, Nintendo will have to include if not all, at least some of these games to continue the legacy of the console.

  • Super Mario 64
  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • Goldeneye

Unfortunately, Banjo-Kazooie license now belongs to Microsoft, so Nintendo will have to get their permission to re-release the port.

The N64 Classic Edition may not have an official release date, but if we follow the pattern of the previous Classic consoles we see that the NES Classic was announced on July 14th, 2016 and released on 10th November 2016. Succeeding it was the SNES Classic which was announced in June 26th, 2017, and released on September 30th, 2017.

The N64 Classic Edition breaks the pattern here by not having a June or July reveal, meaning if the console is announced right now, we can see a release for the console take place in Christmas 2018.

Considering Nintendo is the first to trend with Sony releasing the PlayStation Classic in a few days, it wouldn’t be possible for Nintendo to not re-release their most iconic console to the public.
