New PS4 Exploit could result in PS4 Hack in All Firmware, Including PS4 Pro and Slim Models.

According to a new development in the hacking scene, it seems that there is a breaking development. A new PS4 Hack could suggest that piracy can be completely opened on the console by exploiting the HDMI port in the consoles. This will help bypass the limitations of waiting for the official firmware and waiting for a custom firmware to roll out.

New PS4 Hack Could Completely Open Up PS4

Similar to the hack that opened the Switch to piracy, it will involve manually manipulating the hardware and giving unparallel access to the console and its mechanics. This could mean that the PS4 could be completely hacked up until the latest firmware. Meaning pirates will have a lot more room on getting on the latest firmware a whole lot faster.

In an extensive write up on wololo, you can see that the threat is indeed real.

The exploit involves feeding bogus data to the HDMI port of the console (by exploiting bugs in the CEC interface on the PS4 – CEC is the bit of HDMI protocol magic that lets you turn your TV instantly when you switch the PS4 on, and vice versa) in order to trigger a bug that will let you overwrite data in the PS4’s Southbridge (known as Aeolia or Belize depending on the hardware revision) and get code execution from there.

Fail0verflow is the hacking mastermind behind this discovery but whether they plan on acting on the exploit or not is still the big question. All of this is currently on paper only and it is not yet confirmed if there are plans on making the exploit public.
