After 16 years, one of the greatest FPS games is making a comeback. IGI Origins, the third sequel to the original game, was announced just recently.

If you were a gamer back in the early 2000s then you must be familiar with the IGI franchise. The original game released back in 2000, IGI Project, was a monumentally successful FPS game for its time. Some may even say that the game paved the way for modern First person shooters. A second sequel to the game was released three after the first one in 2003. The second game was called IGI 2 Covert Strike.

Now after 16 years, fans can finally rejoice as Toadman Interactive, the developers behind the game, have announced the third iteration- IGI Origins.

IGI Origins Officially Announced, Will Release In 2021

The announcement came when Robin Flodin, CEO of Toadman Interactive, stated,

”I’m so psyched to announce that the prototyping is going well and we already have a fun base game to play in the studio. Today, we are releasing a teaser showing a glimpse of our prototyping and many things will improve as we continue the development. The reason we are sending out this update is so that we can allow enthusiasts to provide ideas and feedback when we are in the early stages of development. We want to hear from you fans to make sure you get to see the most out of this game.”

Moreover, it seems like one of the original creators of the game is also part of the project. According to Toadman the development of the game is in rudimentary stages right now but the whole team seems to be excited and motivated to be working on the game.

The devs have also released a snippet of what’s to come in a short video on youtube.

The reaction so far has been overwhelming, to say the least. The game was only announced yesterday and several forums and youtube comments are already ripe with people praising the announcement. Games like IGI serve as something more significant than just a mere video game. It is the childhood aspect of it which speaks to so many players and when a new sequel is announced people can seldom hold back their emotions.

The creators of the video have urged the gaming community to give them feedback as the development progresses. Toadman Interactive will be releasing progress videos routinely.
