On launch, each class gets two Combat Roles with one equipped as default. You have to play to unlock the locked role. DICE plans to release more with Tide of War which you can read more from here.

Sniper:

The Sniper Combat Role allows the player to become one with the surrounding like a ghost. This role allows players to have an extended period for holding the breath while taking fire. Neutralizing enemies on streaks and if you land a successful headshot you will be able to slightly extend your breath for some time.

Below are the Sniper Traits according to the official Battlefield V website.

  •  Steady Hands: Steady your rifle when aiming down sights for a longer duration.
  • Expert Marksman: Your steady duration is partially replenished with each headshot kill.

Pathfinder (Unlockable):

This role is totally opposite from Sniper role. Since the job of snipers is to locate and neutralize enemies from long distances. Pathfinders lead the squads from the front and behind enemy lines. You have the ability to spawn at any Squad leader of your team. Scouting a conflicting place and sending a Spawn Beacon to your team so that they can follow the intel to reach the designated location.

Another fun thing that you can do with your Spawn Beacon is that you can send it to places where enemies have a hold, sneakingly deploy behind enemies to give them a big surprise!

Following are the Pathfinders Traits:

  • Advance Scouting: You can spawn on friendly Squad Leaders and Spawn Beacons from outside your own squad.
  • Vanguard: You gain additional Requisition Points when someone spawns on your Spawn Beacon.

Tips from Game Designers

All of the class information has been listed above and the only thing that is remaining is the tips from the core game designers which you can read below.

Jeff Landa Says:

Recon is typically the Class for players who prefer to engage at medium to long range with Bolt Action Rifles or Self-Loading Rifles. In Battlefield V, the two Combat Roles within this Class have different strengths tailored to different playstyles.

When playing as the Sniper Combat Role, find the perfect sniping spot at long range and hold your breath to steady your scope. Try to string headshot kills together to keep your steady duration replenished.

Pathfinders should look for the latest hotspot on the map, spawn on another squad’s Squad Leader or Spawn Beacon near that location, then use a Spawn Beacon gadget to open the area to your squadmates so they can quickly transport across the map and join you.
