Gears Tactics is the latest entry in the long-running franchise by The Coalition. It is finally available on PC via Steam and Xbox Game Pass, and If you’re running into the Gears Tactics GT102 error on PC, here’s how you can fix it. A few players have reported this issue, and it largely stems from unstable GPU drivers.

The Coalition’s latest entry is completely different from their previous games and is more in the vein of XCOM. The change in direction for a new title has been very well received.

Essentially this error code means that your GPU Driver has stopped working.

Update your GPU Drivers

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your GPU. You can get them from the links below.

  • Intel: Latest at time of this post: 26.20.100.8141
  • AMD: Latest at time of this post: Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.4.2
  • NVIDIA: Latest at time of this post: 445.87

Update your Windows

Make sure you are on the latest versions of Microsoft Windows. You can manually update it by navigating to Windows Settings and then Update and Security.

Restart your PC

This error code can show up if there is something that has caused the driver to become unstable. Try restarting your PC, and see if the error resolves.

Delete Local Cache

You can delete the local cache stored in this folder which you can access by opening Run. Press “Win Key + R” and then enter the below command

%localappdata%\GearsTactics.

This will reset video settings and remove some cached graphics data. The game will go through first-time boot again, but your save games will not be affected.

Repair Corrupted Files

If you’re using the Xbox Game Pass or Windows Store version of the game, you can open Command Prompt with admin privileges from the Start Menu, and type in the following command.

sfc /scannow
