Super Smash Brothers Ultimate is just months away but that doesn’t stop fans from speculating. This is the latest in the line of Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Leaks, so take these with a grain of salt.
The crossover fighting game has boasted about their expansive roster since the original teaser, so names from every Nintendo franchise have been thrown into the ring. Two 4chan leakers originating from /v/ claimed earlier today to know about some new brawlers:

The Likely
- Shadow the Hedgehog: the angsty anti-hero from Sega has been tossed around ever since his blue counterpart debuted in Brawl. While Shadow might not be his own fighter, he might share the spotlight with Sonic as an obvious Echo Fighter. The localization team leaker claims this will pair with the Twinkle Park stage from Sonic Adventure 1 but that claim is more out-there.
- Ken Masters: this Street Fighter can fight for his spot as an original character, but his fate is similar to Shadow. Making him an Echo Fighter of Ryu is a no-brainer.
The Maybe
- Geno/Jino: misspelling a beloved character in the code doesn’t inspire much confidence for this leak. Nevertheless, Geno and the Forest Maze stage have been on wishlists for eternity and the Super Mario RPG villain could be an interesting addition. This is a maybe because Smash hasn’t always catered to fanservice (sorry Waluigi!)
- Black Knight: let’s get to the point – this swordsman from Fire Emblem has Echo potential. The series already has tons of characters to choose from so any further clogging is overkill.
- Black Shadow: there’s not much to catch up on with this racer from F-Zero. It’s unlikely he will get anything but the Echo Fighter treatment but stranger choices have been made. Which leads us to…
- Shantae: the protagonist from Shantae: ½ Genie Hero is such an unexpected name that it just might work. The game released on cross-platforms two years ago and is a third party platformer; maybe HAL takes a chance of Half.
- Assist Trophies: the second leaker sprinkled in a list of alleged assist trophies: Ninten from Mother, Animal Crossing’s Digby, Sans from Undertale, and the Rhythm Heaven player Karate Joe. The qualifications for assist trophies are not as rigid so any of these characters could be a subtle nod to their franchises.
The Unlikely
- Rayman: the man, the myth, the legend. Even though his game has made its way to Switch, Rayman debuted in another fighting game, Brawlhalla.
- Decidueye: similar to Rayman, the owl Pokemon from Alola had perched elsewhere. Decidueye is a fighter in Pokkén Tournament, but that doesn’t mean his starter companion Incineroar is off the table…
- Bandana Waddle Dee: Smash Ultimate already has a cuter and cuddlier villain in King Dedede. It’s not impossible for Waddle Dee to be an Echo Fighter but a spot of his own? Don’t hold your breath.
All in all, these “leaks” seem like assumptions mixed with popular speculation. The second leaker claims a press conference in the coming weeks so let’s see if this fanfiction turns into reality.
