How to fix the Borderlands 3 DX 12 Issue and Revert to DX 11

Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is an action role-playing first-person shooter video developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. The game is finally available on PS4, Xbox One and PC via Epic Games Store. While the game has been received well critically, there are a lot of performance issues on each platform. If you’re having trouble with the Borderlands 3 DX 12 version on PC, here’s how you can revert back to DX 11.

We’re hoping that Gearbox releases patches for the game to mitigate the issues players are facing on each platform soon.

How to Revert back to DX 11 from Borderlands 3 DX 12

If you’ve selected the DX 12 mode in Borderland 3, chances are you’ll be stuck in an endless loop when you launch the game, and can’t revert back from the in-game menus. Here’s how you can do that by configuring game files.

  • Head over to the following location to access the game’s configuration file
USER-PROFILEDocumentsMy GamesBorderlands 3SavedConfigWindowsNoEditor
  • Open GameUserSettings.ini in any text editor
  • Location PreferredGraphicsAPI, and change its value from DX12 to DX11
  • Save the file, and close it

That’s all you’ll need to do to revert back to DX 11, which is much more stable than DX 12.
