Warner Bros. has some extremely big and splendid plans for the upcoming and growing big screen DC Universe. And they are continuing to reveal information week to week. The 2016 blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is obviously a big part of it and the Justice League movie is also attached to Zack Snyder. And there is so much more to come. Now there is news that a Suicide Squad movie is up for the making.
Recently it was confirmed that Dwayne The Rock Johnson will be starring as Black Adam in a Shazam film. And now it has been revealed about the Suicide Squad movie. The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that Warner Bros. and DC Comics are now planning a feature around the supervillain group known as Suicide Squad and have come into negotiations with writer/director David Ayer.
This project has actually been in development for a couple of years now, with Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li screenwriter having previously been hired to work on a script. Sources say that the movie was put on hold while things moved forward with Justice League. Now they are exploring the opportunity to do both.
For those who are unfamiliar with Suicide Squad, this is a team made up of convicted supervillains who have the opportunity to take time off of their sentences by taking part in deadly Black Ops missions for the government. They are heavily monitored and if things go otherwise, there are deadly consequences as to shut down the operative. The group is designed by Dr. Amanda Waller, a high ranking government official, also known as The Wall. The original Suicide Squad included Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and Harley Quin. But as of now, it is unclear which characters will be included in the Suicide Squad movie.
