Orkut is a social network most of the people do not use now. Few years back it was well known among people but now Facebook, Twitter and other social networks have gained most of the popularity and people, including me started to forget about Orkut.
Google announced its plan today to shut down its social network Orkut. Orkut was launched in 2004 but Facebook was also launched at about the same time. Orkut could not see much popularity out of some countries like Brazil and Russia.
Orkut will shut down officially on September 30 this year. It seems like Google is shutting it down because it wants to focus on its new social network Google Plus. Google Plus is gaining a fair amount of popularity and it seems like it is not coming down in the near future.
Starting today, new users wont be able to create new accounts on twitter and old users will not be able to use their account after September 30. So they should export all their photos to either Google Drive or Google Photos. After that all the photos will be deleted and all the public communications will be preserved in and archive and will be view-able by anyone. Till the end of Spetember you;ll be able to use your account normally.
